How to EPFO Password Reset on UAN Portal | UAN Password Format

EPFO Password Reset: Universal Account Number (UAN) is a number allotted by the EPFO for every employee and employer who contributes to the EPF account. All operations under EPF have been digitized and all services can be carried out online. Hence it is important to have a UAN. EPF related services like PF Withdrawal, Transfer of PF amount can be done easily if you have UAN. We cannot login to the EPFO portal without UAN. In case if you forgot your UAN Password you can change or reset the password.

How to Reset EPFO Password (UAN)

In case if you have forgotten login details, you can Reset EPFO Password on UAN with your registered mobile number.

• Reset or Recover Password using Mobile Number

The following is the step by step procedure to reset your UAN Password by using your Mobile number.

Step 1: Visit the EPFO UAN login portal.

Step 2: Click “Forgot Password” icon in the page.

Step 3: You will be taken to a page where you are required to enter your UAN number and Captcha and then click on “Verify” button.

Step 4:   The mobile number linked to your UAN will be displayed on the page. If you want to change your mobile number you can do so by clicking at “No”.

Step 5: Then you have entered your personal details such as Name, Gender, DOB, KYC type and Document number. After this enter “Verify” button.

Step 6:  If the details mentioned above matched with your portal then you can enter your new mobile number.

Step 7: Then you will receive a One Time Password (OTP) on the given mobile number.

Step 8: Enter your custom password twice.

Step 9: Finally you will receive a message called your Password Changed Successfully.

Now you can log in to the UAN Account with your changed password and UAN number.

• Reset or Recover UAN Password without Mobile Number

If you don’t want to change your mobile number that is linked with your UAN then you can follow the below steps to change or Rest your password.

Step 1: Visit the UAN login portal.

Step 2: Click on “Forget Password” link.

Step 3: Enter your UAN number and Captcha and click on “Verify” button.

Step 4: The mobile number which is linked to your UAN portal will be displayed. Click on “Yes” button.

Step 5: Then it will ask for the One Time Password send to your mobile number which is displayed before.

Step 6: If for various reasons the website is unable to send the OTP, then a message will be displayed like Failed to send OTP. Then you may try again after sometimes.

Step 7: If OTP is sent successfully, then you will get the OTP on your mobile number registered with the UAN.

• For Example: Dear Mr. ABC XYZ. Your OTP corresponding to OTP id 6000 is 3937. Enter this pin to set a new password for your account. You should use the PIN number displayed and not the OTP.

Step 8: After entering the OTP, Enter the new password twice and click on “Submit” button.

The password must contain a minimum of 7 characters and a maximum of 20 characters. In this password, you need to have the combination of a minimum of 4 alphabets, minimum of 2 digits, and one special character. In the 4 alphabets, at least one character should be capital and one small letter.

Step 9: Now the page will display you a message saying that your Password Changed Successfully.

How to Change EPFO Password After logging

You can change EPFO password at your convenience anytime and not only when you have forgotten your password. The following are the step to change the password after logging in to the portal. 

1. Visit the EPFO official portal or click here
2. In the home page, click the link ”Forgot Password”.
3. Enter the UAN Number and captcha code and then click on “Submit” button.
4. Now the page will display a message saying that Your password has been reset and your login credentials that have been sent to your registered mobile number.
5. You will receive the SMS to your registered mobile number with the username and password.
6. Enter the new password on the website after receiving the login credentials. Now you can set your new Password.

UAN Password Format

The UAN has a specific format for Password creation. It must contain a minimum of 7 characters to a maximum of 20 characters. It should have a combination of a minimum of 4 alphabets, minimum 2 digits, and one special character are ! @ # $ % ^ & * ). In the 4 alphabets, at least one character should be capital and one small letter.

The official portal provides you the facility to create a new EPFO password for all the EPF account users who have lost or forgotten their password. It is advisable not to change the mobile number which you have registered with your UAN.
